Suicide is not a selfish or cowardly act. It is a tragedy of soul. Accusations of selfishness are misguided and not helpful to anyone. Attacking those who suffer from incredible mental, spiritual, and emotional anguish while living or dead is vulgar, naive, and lacks compassion for all involved. Unless youve experienced the kind of psychache and pain of those whove attempted or committed suicide, you truly have no idea of what the experience is like nor how depression and psychache can cripple the mind and soul of a human being. Thought processes are distorted, self-loathing is often rampant, and many genuinely believe that their loved ones would be better off without them as a burden. Furthermore, in the darkest realms of such anguish, the idea of relief or cessation of suffering overwhelms virtually all reason and desire to live. Let us practice compassion and understanding, and may we all strive to learn how to better prevent such tragedies among our spheres of influence and in our communities.
