Sukkot, Translated, Tabernacles, or the festival of Booths. From the time of a somber mood of repentance and judgment, to time of rejoicing and celebration, for which the people were commanded to build a hut ( sukkah or plural sukkot ) and make it their home. The Torah identifies the sukkah ( booths ) with temporary dwellings in which the Israelites lived in the wilderness after they left Egypt on their ay to the promised land. Leviticus ( Vayikra ) 23:42.
