Sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) are always of considerable crucial - TopicsExpress

Sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) are always of considerable crucial in bio-corrosion. During the processes of sulfide generation/decomposition, vigorous electron transfers accelerate all the reactions correlated. In the other hand, the characteristics of high concentration of salt and sulfate in seawater will facilitate electrochemical reaction and SRB growth, respectively. These reasons render the ocean an ideal environment for carrying out electromicrobiology of SRB. With regard to the field of environmental engineering, whether in solid-waste digestion or wastewater treatment, SRB always predominate the special-compound decomposition, because of its active electron transfer such as hydrogen production/consumption, beyond sulfide production. By using poised potential, the redox equivalent could be quantified in the form of current, and that will be helpful to clarify some mechanisms. Furthermore, because the follow-up combustion engine would be severely corroded by sulfuric acid due to exceeded sulfide generation, equipping an electrochemical sulfide oxidizer (which could be based on the results of this study) in anaerobic digestors could be applicable and of considerable practical interest.
