In the memory text for the lesson, Jesus highlights the principal importance of preaching the gospel. Somehow we have come to believe that the purpose of preaching the gospel is to win souls. But look carefully again at what Jesus said in Matt. 24:14.. He said, “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.” Yes my friend. The purpose of preaching the gospel is to be “A WITNESS UNTO ALL NATIONS.” What did Jesus mean by the word witness? In the original Greek the word used for witness is “martyrion”. This meaning of this word given by the Strong’s Concordance is “Testimony”. The Strong’s Concordance continues to say that “martyrion” is “testimony or witness as borne, a declaration of facts, So we must share the facts of the gospel to the entire world before the end can come. During this week the Lord reminded us that unless we have our own personal encounter with Him, we will not receive the facts of the gospel nor the power to share this very powerful message. We are going to be empowered to share these facts based on our own personal experience as a follower of Christ. God wants to give us experiences similar to the people in the Bible so that we, like them, can say that we have been with Jesus. Without this personal and intimate encounter with the Lord we will not possess the power to spread the everlasting gospel to ends of the world, as a witness. Sis White said, “The disciples were to carry their work forward in Christs name. Their every word and act was to fasten attention on His name, as possessing that vital power by which sinners may be saved. Their faith was to center in Him who is the source of mercy and power. In His name they were to present their petitions to the Father, and they would receive answer. They were to baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Christs name was to be their watchword, their badge of distinction, their bond of union, the authority for their course of action, and the source of their success. Nothing was to be recognized in His kingdom that did not bear His name and superscription. When Christ said to the disciples, Go forth in My name to gather into the church all who believe, He plainly set before them the necessity of maintaining simplicity. The less ostentation and show, the greater would be their influence for good. The disciples were to speak with the same simplicity with which Christ had spoken. They were to impress upon their hearers the lessons He had taught them. Christ did not tell His disciples that their work would be easy. He showed them the vast confederacy of evil arrayed against them. They would have to fight against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12. But they would not be left to fight alone. He assured them that He would be with them; and that if they would go forth in faith, they should move under the shield of Omnipotence. He bade them be brave and strong; for One mightier than angels would be in their ranks--the General of the armies of heaven. He made full provision for the prosecution of their work and took upon Himself the responsibility of its success. So long as they obeyed His word, and worked in connection with Him, they could not fail. Go to all nations, He bade them. Go to the farthest part of the habitable globe and be assured that My presence will be with you even there. Labor in faith and confidence; for the time will never come when I will forsake you. I will be with you always, helping you to perform your duty, guiding, comforting, sanctifying, sustaining you, giving you success in speaking words that shall draw the attention of others to heaven.” August 24, 2014 Only Those Who Have Accepted Jesus Christ As Their Saviour Will Be Perfect Reflector Of The Light Of God’s Character To The World Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Matt. 5:16) August 25, 2014 Only Those Who Have An Encounter With God Will Receive The Transformation Necessary To Become Effective Witnesses For Him But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. (Mark 16:15) August 29, 2014 Unless We Drink Living Water From The Fountain Of Life God Cannot Use Us To Take The Everlasting Gospel To Perishing Sinners And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. (Rev. 21:6)
