Summer Camp Schedule. Call to register your child or child at heart today. 618-529-4110 HORSEBACK RIDING FOR BEGINNERS: Students will be taught basic horse anatomy, the parts of the saddle and bridle, and how to tie a horse. They will learn how to approach a horse that is tied or in a stall and how to lead a horse safely around other horses including how to enter and exit the stall and barn. Riders will be taught how to groom and safely put on a saddle, tie a western cinch and how to tighten it once tied. Students will participate in a riding lesson each day that is focused on basic riding skills. Everyone will also have the opportunity to go on a trail ride. The five day camp concludes with a fun show on Friday. Ages 7+ 5 day Mon.-Fri. 9am-Noon June 16-20 July 7-11 August 4-8 $225 _________ Beginner 3 day Wed.-Fri. 9am-Noon July 30, 31 Aug 1 $150_________ INTRODUCTION TO HORSEBACK RIDING: Students will be introduced to basic safety around horses. They will be shown how to approach, lead and groom a horse so there is no dirt trapped under the saddle. Students will arena ride each day learning the basics of being a balanced rider, proper posture and steering the horse. Riders will be introduced to the basic commands of walking, turning, stopping and steering their horse. This camp is filled with hands on activities, barn chores and games. Ages 6, 7, & 8. 3 day Wed.-Fri. 9am-11am July 16, 17, 18 $90 _________ HORSEBACK RIDING FOR INTERMEDIATE RIDERS: Students will learn the difference between a sitting and posting trot, diagonals, simple canter departures and leads, riding with an independent seat, how balance and posture effects your horses straightness bend and collection, and the power of patterns. Students must have the following ground skills; ability to groom and saddle their own horse unassisted, have a basic knowledge of safety, be competent leading in and around the barn, stall and other horses, and can safely and correctly tie your horse. In addition riders must be able to mount and dismount a horse unassisted, ride at a walk and trot under control (this means you can follow a simple pattern that includes riding a straight line for 60 feet and reverse direction of no more than 30 feet in radius) while maintaining gate. Students that are not proficient in these skills need to enroll in the beginner class or take private lessons to master these skills. Ages 12+ or by permission. 5 day Mon.-Fri. 9am-3pm June 23-27 $400 _________
