Summer Volunteer Internship Position with ACTS! Build your resume while building connections with your local non-profit and community! ACTS is looking for a summer intern to assist the Development Department with event planning and volunteer coordination. Please find a description of this exciting position listed below! Volunteer/Events Intern for: Action In Community Through Service, Prince William (ACTS) Title: Volunteer/Events Intern General Description:The Volunteer/Events Intern will help continue to build a diverse base of volunteers and will maintain and update database records. The work performed should encompass approximately 25-30 hours per week, including on-site and planning time, and may also involve assisting with coordinating off-site volunteers, if needed. The internship is unpaid, but college credit may be arranged through your academic adviser. The internship is from Mid-May to Mid-August (with some flexibility in dates). Purpose/Objective: The Volunteer/Events Intern will assist the Volunteer Coordinator in planning and implementing ACTS work with volunteers, as well as assisting with planning upcoming ACTS Events. Supervisor: ACTS Volunteer/Events Coordinator and Director of Development Key Responsibilities: As the Volunteer Coordinator Intern you will be responsible for assisting in: Assigning volunteers to meet daily needs of ACTS programs; Coordinating volunteer groups for ACTS projects; Maintaining volunteer database and email list-serve, ensuring necessary paper work is completed for volunteers; Working with ACTS Development Director to manage volunteer outreach; Recruiting volunteers from Prince William community. As the Events Coordinator Intern you will be responsible for assisting in: Coordinating one Dine-In fundraiser event with a local restaurant; Work with Development Team to help plan IWALK for ACTS (annual fundraising event for ACTS). Additionally, throughout the internship, interns are expected to: Submit monthly time sheets itemizing time spent on the internship; Meet weekly with ACTS Development Team to report updates and activity; Meet with his/her direct supervisor for a performance evaluation; Assist as-needed with administrative functions of the program. Qualifications: •Enthusiasm and patience in working with (and on occasion, training) volunteers of all ages. •Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and communities. •Strong written and oral communication skills. •Flexible working style - ability to work independently and collaborate effectively. •Ability to solve problems independently and creatively. •High School Diploma or GED required. Training/Support provided: Two weeks of initial training, and on-going training and support provided as needed. Location/Time Commitment: Dumfries, Virginia, Prince William County 25-35 Hours per week The Intern will gain/expand the following skills/experiences: •Communications Skills - working with ACTS staff to determine volunteer needs. Speaking with volunteers to determine interests/needs and placing them in appropriate opportunities. •Strong Work Ethic - by collecting and keeping the personal volunteer information secure and updated. •Teamwork Skills (work well with others) - working closely with ACTS staff to meet on-going needs of the department and office, assisting staff as needed on various projects. •Initiative - a self-starter keeping on top of requirements, projects, and looking ahead to future opportunities. •Interpersonal Skills (relating well with others) - working with people of all ages, ethnicity, and backgrounds. •Analytical Skills - working with staff members to solve challenges as they arise. •Flexibility/Adaptability - meeting the ever changing daily needs of the department and office. •Computer Skills - using Microsoft Office products to prepare flyers, and documents needed for projects. Learning and using Volgistics volunteer software. •Leadership Skills - Taking charge of planning and executing Dine-In/Give Back Restaurant Night, take on and assist with planning of ACTS IWALK (annual fundraising walk for ACTS). •Self-confidence - building communication skills, office skills and etiquette; knowledge. •Creativity - working with staff to determine volunteer opportunities, as well as event planning, flyer design. •Knowledge - seeing first-hand how a 501(c)(3) works, understanding its role and relationships in the community. •References - upon completion of a successful internship, the Intern will have a reference from a leading non-profit in Northern Virginia. •Friendly/Outgoing Personality. •Sense of Humor.
