Summer fun in the ES department Professor Travis Reynolds has - TopicsExpress

Summer fun in the ES department Professor Travis Reynolds has had a very busy summer so far. In June he was on the road attending several conferences. At the United States Society for Ecological Economics (USSEE) conference in Burlington, Vermont and the Association for Environmental Studies and Sciences (AESS) in Pittsburgh, PA he presented two papers. Travis then traveled to San Jose, Costa Rica and presented a paper at the Association for Tropical Biodiversity Conservation (ATBC) and Organization for Tropical Studies (OTS) joint 50th anniversary conference. While there he presented his students and his work on Ethiopian church forests. He had the wonderful opportunity of meeting researchers from all over the globe that are working on sacred forests in Kenya and India. Now back at Colby Travis and his inter have kept in touch with their fellow church forest researchers and are thinking about working on cross-country comparisons of how sacred groves work in different contexts. At one of the conferences he attended he saw Cat Collins and Judy Stone, both Professors in the Biology department at Colby. It is great to hear that “Colby was well represented.” For July Travis will be on campus, working with his summer intern Ellen Evangelides on church forest mapping in preparation for his next trip to Ethiopia in late July-August.
