Summer is fast approaching and next year’s seniors are starting to calendar their summer days for times and dates to come to CPSi and work on college essays and applications. Many of them also have one or two academic or personal development camps to participate in as well. For ninth and tenth graders the summer still has an open feel to it, but many have selected academic, sport, or adventure programs to attend. CPSi also recommends that students have a few books selected to read over the summer months besides the one or two required by their high schools. Reading offers many benefits not the least of which is vocabulary building. Developing a wide vocabulary is a life-long pursuit, but for the aspiring college student it strengthens the test-taking muscles needed for scoring well on standardized tests. CPSi students are presented with a list of books recommended for the college-bound, but there are many booklists online for students to refer to.
