Summer is for trail running! We are fortunate to live one half mile away from the Appalachian Trail - The Tyringham to Goose Pond to Green Pond section is a beautiful stretch to run, with lots of rocky hills, and best of all, a chance to see thru-hikers, those amazing individuals who have been hiking from Georgia and will make it to Mount Katahdin in Maine before snow flies. Everyone I’ve met so far is happy to share the trail with day-trippers like me. The highlight of my summer is when I make my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe. With my hen’s fresh eggs and Kate’s Homemade butter. You cannot see my pack in this photo but it is filled with cookies that I present as “trail magic” to the first through hiker I meet on the trail. They can eat them all, or share with fellow hikers. It’s up to them, but I love it when they tell me their trail name, another Appalachian Trail tradition. Sometimes they will also tell me a story that happened on the trail. It’s a tremendous effort to hike the trail with often up to 70 lbs. of equipment. As for me, I’m just in awe at how nice the hikers are about sharing the trail.
