Summer is here and with it lots of music and culture in the streets and clubs of Chicago. The 2014 Annual Chicago Blues Festival begins on Friday officially but for me it all starts at Space in Evanston tonight with the record release party for the latest by my longtime friend Dave Specter. Its been a few years but now the wait is over for his latest Delmark Records release Message In Blue, a diverse musical offering of various blues styles with Daves trademark jazzy twist at times My buddy Hambone and WDCB station mgr Dan should be out there as well and am looking forward to getting back to Space with those comrades. Come Friday afternoon, sleep be damned since Im working the Thursday overnight into Fri. Want to get back downtown in the afternoon in time for Kate Moss gig with Smiley Tilmon at Buddy Guys Legends. Rumour has it a very special guest might just happen to be there...well, he should never leave really especially while Bluesfest is ongoing. There are some good things on Friday that I need to mention and might eventually but am getting tired...boo, hiss I know!! But not before I mention that I likely will be leaving Bluesfest early Friday night to pick up a friend and head for downtown Libertyville where my buddy Louie Zagoras and his long running band ROLLOVER will be headling the annual summer fest. Corner of 176 and Milwaukee I think. Listen for the sound of Shipwreck and the areas best covers of Clapton and Hendrix to guide your way there! Have to be up early the next morning to go on The Drive, 6-10am but will stay downtown afterward for awhile to check out the late morning through early evening Bluesfest schedule .If it is nice....and all indications are it will be, I can always take a nap under a tree, right? Saturday night might find me running north to a friendly little place along the North Shore that specializes in music on the weekends. Donellis or The Alley? Or if I head more northwest, theres new Palatine fave spots Brandts or Macs on Slade. though I might end up at the latter no matter where I go first. And we cant forget the culinary delights of my buddies new Roselle hotspot,1913 brought to you by Ron, Dennis and Eric. Choices, choices. If I catch a second wind, Ill write more. If not itll be tomorrow probably....
