Summers were awesome in the Autumn Lane Neighborhood. By early - TopicsExpress

Summers were awesome in the Autumn Lane Neighborhood. By early August, there is a large number of families that are gone on vacation. Some years Mom would take the four of us, by train, to Texas for like three or four weeks. When they got older, my older brother and sister (Norma and Rich Darr) would go, just the two of them, by plane, to Texas for like four or five weeks, to stay with my grandparents. The Stroyan twins had birthdays a few weeks before mine, and then mine was in mid August. These late season birthdays made the summer seem longer (because you couldnt wait for your birthday to get here!) And summers were always framed by the end of school, and these few birthday parties we would have in the neighborhood. Lots of games of - - - what was it called? - - - 500? - - - in the street, where a guy would fungo long fly balls to several guys down the street. We also played Seven-up, all kinds of tag (cigarette, freeze, etc.), Mother-May-I, Red Light-Green Light, kick the can, etc. And the woods just west of Autumn Drive were simply the best on earth.
