Summon your power, O God; show us your strength, O God as you have - TopicsExpress

Summon your power, O God; show us your strength, O God as you have done before. Psalm 68:28 NIV These words may well have been in the heart and mouth of Elisha as he stood on the bank of the Jordan River. What an amazing ten-year journey it has been for this prophet of God. Since the day that Elijah that met him in that open field and put the mantle signifying the anointing on his shoulders, Elisha has observed the power of God. That journey has now brought him to the major point of transition. II Kings 2:1 begins with the words When the Lord was about to...(NIV). That day began on the road to Gilgal but ultimately brought them to the banks of the Jordan. The anointing of the previous generation opened up the Jordan. On that opposite bank Elisha receives the amazing invitation: What can I do for you before I am taken from you? He is seemingly ready with his answer: Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit. Elijah describes his desire as a difficult thing but tells him how he can access that supernatural anointing: yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours-otherwise not. What could this possibly mean? After being so diligent and intentional to pursue Elijah the full distance, we know there is no chance that he will suddenly be distracted and inattentive. Rather, Elijah is giving him the secret that the anointing is directly linked to the revelation of the supernatural sphere of divine activity. Elisha would be among those who do not draw a conclusion based on the natural realm. Rather, he saw the chariot and horses of fire and now carried the revelation of the supernatural realm. If you track Elisha through his life-journey he will often revert to that realm and bring others into the revelation as well. Now Elisha stands on the bank of the Jordan with the mantle of Elijah in his hand. However, his destiny and the demonstration of divine power awaits on the other side of the Jordan. The first application of his new-found revelation comes as he now activates the anointing (the mantle) by striking the water. That Jordan River and every challenge he will face in the ministry ahead responds to the anointing and power of God. What a day! The Jordan opens (twice), the heavens open, and the source, sphere, and realm of power is now available to Elisha! Yes, as per the cry of Psalm 68:28, the Lord is set to show us His strength. It is His plan for us to access the supernatural with full assurance that the power of God is both available and awaiting us for demonstration in our day! Hes done it before; He will do it again...now!
