Sunday 24th November 2013 Market Bosworth RFC - Under 15’s Friendly Melton Mowbray RFC 12 v Market Bosworth RFC 49 Week Four of the Unofficial COBs (Crankies Of Bosworth) Autumn Tour sees the parents, supporters, chauffer’s and hanger-on’s arrive at Melton Mowbray for the final part of the Leicestershire segment of the tour having been to all compass points of the county to watch their team. Next week it’s a trip over the county border with passports in order for two matches in Warwickshire before a possible return to Cadeby Lane. Rumour has it that there a works in progress at Bosworth to enlarge the car park but you know how rumours enlarge in the telling. Next they will be saying a man in a red coat is due in a months time so for now no rumours just a factual summary of the match against Melton Mowbray. Under a grey cloud the Market Bosworth under 15s set in motion the game watched eagerly by the COBs. Most of the early pressure was from Bosworth so it was no surprise to find the visitors open the scoring after five minutes when after a series or rucks and mauls won by the forwards the backs were release for George Hall to score the try. Sean Chambers with the completed conversion. Three minutes later and a second try followed from some enterprising handling and a dummy pass from Sean saw James Liddell finish off the move with a second conversion from Sean. Good forward play, in particular Alfie Ruff, saw the ball progress to the backs with Sean adding his name to the try scorers in the 13th minute. Melton were playing good rugby themselves but just unable to control the rucks which Bosworth were using to gain territory. During one of these rucks the referee just got a little too close and brought many a smile to both sets of supporters as he hit the deck. It was following this incident that Melton had a very good spell putting the Bosworth defence under immense pressure until finally in the 26th minute the hosts were rewarded with a try and a good conversion followed. Back came Bosworth and their prize was their fourth try from James Liddell with the last movement of the half. Half time Melton Mowbray 7 Market Bosworth 28. The coaches made a few changes at half time and it was good to see Captain Harry Robinson return after a long spell off with a non-rugby induced injury. The hosts started the better of the second half and looked to score the next points but were thwarted by a try saving stoppage from Ross Waters. Jack Stokes broke through the Melton line with the final pass just not being held under pressure by Will Burgess as the try line beckoned. Ten minutes into the half and finally George Pickens received the ball from a well won scrum against the put in. He in turn released George Hall to score the try in the corner. Sean having a great day with the boot, kicking from the touchline his fifth conversion. Further good forward play allowed Will Shorthose to be the final player with his hands on the ball as he skimmed the Melton defence for Bosworth sixth try. Melton continued with great spirit and was finally successful in getting their second try in the 52nd minute when from a quick penalty they powered over the line. In the 56th minute George Pickens scored Bosworth final try with much help from an unused second run by George Hall which split the home sides defence. Over went the conversion giving Sean seven out of seven for the game and shortly afterwards the ref brought the game to an end. Melton Mowbray 12 - Market Bosworth 49. A good game played in excellent rugby spirit. Not a bad day on the culinary front either as the morning opened with a fine bacon and egg buttie scoring eight out of ten and finished with yours truly being given a sausage and bacon buttie at the end of the morning worthy of a nine out of ten. I must state the score had nothing to do with the buttie being free – or did it? Now if they only did black pudding with their bacon butties in Warwickshire. Report by ‘Nosher’ Harrington-Smyth
