Sunday Afternoon Jukebox...It was really an extra special service and message this morning. Marissa got an up close and personal look at me playing drums and Ernie giving a passionate message. She said I looked like a gorilla...lol. She usually cant see me too well. Shes right...I was deep, deep, deep into it this morning, and that brings out my long arms flying about and crazy faces. She was quite amused...AND said I was really good, which makes me happy :) The girl doesnt give compliments out very easy...lol. Ernies message was awesome, complete with props of a bunch of glass pebbles that he eventually tossed out all over the stage. When he did that Rissy leaned over and told me I better not trip on those when I go back up to play again...lol. She knows Im a klutz. His point was that hes been doing his work for 30 years, and hes tired of talking so much, and wants action from the church. He has turned up the heat and has big plans. The church in America today has become stagnant and tired. A great many go to hear the music and get an inspiring message geared towards whatever is bothering them. Then they go home and forget about God until the next Sunday. Ernie cant take it anymore. I agree 100%. That said, and the one flaw if you can call it that in his message, is that the new person that came into church that morning needs to meet Christ in a meaningful way. Thats the prayer I say every time I sit down behind a church drum set. To help me use the talents on loan from God so that even if just one person connects through the music to Christ, then we will have done what we are supposed to do. That person needs to hear all the talk, they need to hear all the music, and they need to be around all the people. Most of us may have moved way past that moment and into action faith, but we cant leave the person desperately seeking answers alone in the pew confused and left behind. For Ernie I imagine giving sermons for 30 years is like singing a number 1 hit for 30 years. You get so sick of it you never want to hear it again. But that song was important. It touched hearts. His sermon is a million times more important. It changed lives. So let us that are ready be action disciples, and let those still figuring out...be helped and guided by us. I posted this song earlier this week because we were playing it today and I felt like there was good reason for me to hear it that day. It was AWESOME this morning...at least on stage...and this is the song Rissy said I was a gorilla...lol. I was completely inside it and in another place while we played it. Megan and Jessica sang it wonderfully, and the band was perfect. We did it on Wed night and it was pretty flat and ragged. We did it at rehearsal this morning and it was better, but not where it could be...and then we did it during service, and it was a magic music moment where everything just happens right. The arrangement we did was very similar to the one Im about to post. The singer in this version stops later in the song, and those she is somewhat of a spaz about it, she gives a very important message to those listening, which is - Once you have been in Gods presence, you are never the same. Thats fact, and its the same thing Ernie was talking about. Once you are there, you cant help but to act. You are never the same person again. Have a great Sunday, yall...https://youtube/watch?v=JoC1ec-lYps
