Sunday...I was running a bit late to work...needed to go get my key for limo...then head to get the skydive van. I had Brit with me to drive my suv home (she has had her license for about 6 weeks! Time flies.) So we were less than a mile from home. Brit told me I was speeding so I slowed down. Came to the light on Russell and Mt. Vista...which was turning red so I stopped. Almost came to a complete stop when a car to my right blew a light completely. We commented on the fact that if there was no emergency...you dont blow a stop light 2 seconds after it is red. (Yes, we have all done it for whatever reason.) So, we waited for the light to turn green. 2 streets up, traffic is stopped. We pulled up and Brit said that is the car that just blew the red light. I looked to the right and saw a little kids bike and a tri-cycle. Then saw a few people surrounding a kid. Brit said she cant see this. I have no emergency training and so many people were there. We waited a couple of minutes...then left. I decided to call 311 and let them know we didnt see the incident but did witness the car blow the red light at high speeds. Today the detective called to have me repeat the info I had. The story behind this... An suv with a 2 year old was riding in the back of an suv (no car seat) was sitting in the back of the vehicle with 2 bikes. The latch came undone. The bikes as well as the 2 year old fell out of the suv. The child was unharmed. He started chasing after mom. The car that blew the red light hit the kid. The child will be ok! He broke his femur as well as bones in his face. He had surgery that night. That is all the detective could tell me. I have to be very cruel to this mom that didnt have her child in a car seat. My oldest son used to get mad that he was so skinny and weighed so little that he was in a booster seat till he was 7 or 8. My kids are not little! oldest is 23. I preach wearing a seatbelt! I drive a huge truck limo and get laughed at for putting my seatbelt on when I go around the hotel driveways. I can take a hit from the airbag...but really? A 2 year old. I really hope for a full recovery for this child. I am sure that the mom will be haunted forever so charging her with anything would be pointless. I am simply asking everyone to please make kids priority. Please buckle your loved ones in. Be cautious at red light and pay attention to the roads. Speeding happens...but be aware of your surroundings! I didnt see this incident but still havent been able to sleep. Be safe!!!
