Sunday League Round-up. Palmerston Colts had been subdued by Annan last week in the Prego Premier League and had to come out strong against League Champions Moffat Thistle who have yet to lose a goal this season. Palmerston had the unenviable task of not only having to beat Moffat but to do it by at least 2 goals. Palmerston tore right into Moffat and took the lead through Jamie McKie on 15 minutes. Amazingly Greg Lawrie then extended the lead before hitting a hat-trick to put the Colts 4-0 up. Moffat scored midway through the second half and knew they needed to score again at least but they couldn’t score again and Palmerston turned the group on its head to go through on the last day of the group. They now face a clash with Nithside in the Semi-Finals which will a cracking clash. Loreburn Thistle faced Normandy and were under pressure to get 3 points and get themselves back into the championship race already. Normandy were coming off a solid win against Kings and fancied their chances. A very tight opening 20 minutes with rarely a chance to speak of. Joe Martin, Eddie McKean and Ryan Coates of Loreburn were having a ding dong battle in midfield with Martin Smith and Paul McCann. Tackles were strong and all were trying to play passes but were not getting a lot of time on the ball at this stage. Loreburn were showing frightening pace down the wings with Eddie McKean and Ryan Coates was starting to also break down the wings. Ryan Coates then jinked past 4 men before shooting just over from the edge of the box. A minute later and he had Normandys keeper parrying a 25 yard effort round for a corner. Normandy started to get a grip in midfield now and Loreburns defence started to come under a lot of pressure but stayed strong being well marshalled by Mikey Devlin, Sean Gemmell and Jamie Crosbie. Paul McCann then started to influence the game with a very strong midfield run resulting in a free kick. From the resulting free kick James Rogerson hit the corner of post and bar before Kris Shannon turned in the rebound only to be correctly given offside. Normandy were then awarded a penalty which was very well taken by James Rogerson and Normandy looked to have settled. Just before half time Mikey Devlin played in a good cross which was bundled in by Sean Gemmell to take the game in 1-1 at half time. In the second half it started again competitively before Loreburn were correctly awarded a penalty which was very well despatched high into the net by Jamie Crosbie. Normandy now were under pressure to get back into the game and this was made much harder when Paul McCann was red carded. To compound things for Normandy Ryan Service was brought on and he and Ryan Coates were starting to lead Normandy a merry dance down the wings. A tight end to the game with few chances until Kris Shannon forced a stunning save from Loreburns keeper before the rebound was an open goal, somehow Jamie Crosbie made a stunning sliding block to thwart Normandy. Some solid performances from several players especially Martin Smith, Paul McCann and Jack Loudon. But Loreburns pace was frightening and solid performances from Ryan Coates, Jamie Crosbie, Sean Gemmell, Eddie McKean and Man of the Match Joe Martin. A word also for referee Donald McGuffie who in an especially competitive and fast game handled the game very well one of many top officials the league has. For Hole in Wa it was another day at the office as they keep rampaging over all and sundry at the start of this season. Today it was Scaur who were on the receiving end as Hole went top of the Prego Premier League. After a tight half hour Davy Dolan opened the scoring as he unleashed a blockbuster to put Wa in front. A persistent Alex Bedford created number 2 for Allan Hunter. Aaron Cowan hit the third before Davy Dolan scored from the spot. Mark Milligan then lobbed Scaurs keeper before Kevin McCall hit a consolation for the visitors. Rounding up the League Cup there were 2 further games which couldn’t effect who went through. Firstly Five Arches eased past Park Thistle. Doubles from David Bradbury and Adam Graham and a hat-trick for Five Arches whilst Cairn Jamieson and Derek Jardine scored for Park Thistle. In the other game Kings eased past Ruthwell comfortably enough. Levi Carrick, Ryan Gilmour, Darren Howat and a Cammy Thorburn double for the hosts and Grant Bryson with Ruthwells consolation. In the Metrik Office Supplies First Division Kelloholm went clear at the top of the table with an emphatic away win at Auldgirth. Hendersons have had a exceptionally tough start to the season playing many top sides but will now settle down and get some results and confidence in the First Division in the coming weeks. Kelloholm scoring through Shaun Perry (3), Gary Crosbie (3), Robert O’Connor and Kieran O’Connor both hitting doubles as well as strikes from Colin McHugh and Curtis Tudhope. Summerhill have started the season well and are buoyed with a new found confidence and kept the run going winning against Youth in a tight game. Ben Gillon getting a double for the visitors along with strikes from Ian Christine and Adam Kerr. Jack Jones and James Macanallay scoring for Youth who will be gutted they didn’t take something from the game. Jamie Kimm putting in a good performance for Summerhill. Final game of the day and Jolly who have played pretty well in the League Cup without a point will be relieved to have picked up full points against Dumfries. Again another tight opening with Jolly opening the scoring just before half time. Midway through the second half and Jolly started to ease away from Dumfries who are improving fast. Jolly scorers being Chris Clark (2), Gary Haining (2), Ally McKenna and Elloitt Harris, Dumfries scoring through Islam Kadyrov.
