Sunday Thoughts (ahead of time): Asked a psychologist in 1986 why folks are late to church. Her insightful answer: Unconsciously, folks give themselves permission to fudge a bit because Sunday worship is a voluntary activity. When you punch a clock all week, a respite is nice. Also, getting all the family ready is a challenge on a good day. Be kind to your congregation. OK. But folks, TRY to be on time :) For me, on time is early. For others in my family, it is somewhere close to the scheduled time. For other cultures, it is the same part of the day. Chill. An old song with a bright tempo is new again to another generation. If you love hyms, sing them with gusto and style, not like a funeral dirge. And remember, Luther, Calvin and the Wesleys were all criticized for being too lively. May all our churches be lively in the Holy Spirit for the glory of God!
