The ridge should strengthen from Monday as the high moves east. A weak upper level trough lies over southeast Queensland and is expected to strengthening as it extends northwards early in the working week, and then offshore by Wednesday. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Mainly scattered showers and thunderstorms over the states northwest and over Far North Queensland. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the Central Interior and about the states southeast. Fine and clear elsewhere. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds, fresh at times about the tropical parts of the east coast. Monday 16 December Mainly scattered showers and thunderstorms over the states northwest and over Far North Queensland. Mainly isolated showers and thunderstorms about the southeast quarter of the state, the southern interior and the central interior, more widespread during the afternoon about the Darling Downs and Granite Belt. Fine and mostly sunny over the Channel Country, the Central Coast and the northern interior. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds, fresh at times about the tropical parts of the east coast. Fire Danger - Severe over the Channel Country and high to very high over much of the remaining interior. Tuesday 17 December The upper trough should strengthen over the states southeast, helping to produce showers and thunderstorms about the southeast, the southern interior, and central parts of the state. A strengthening onshore wind flow should push some showers across parts of the east coast, and isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected over the Peninsula district. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state. Wednesday 18 December A firm ridge of high pressure up the east coast should keep most of Queensland fine and mostly sunny except for some isolated showers and thunderstorms over the Peninsula district and some mainly isolated showers over parts of the east coast.
