Sundays are generally my recovery days. Honestly, sometimes I find resting to be hard because I love to do something physical, BUT it is so important to never neglect recovery days! When you exercise your muscles are stressed and they tear (small tiny tears). Its during the recovery period when these muscles heal and strengthen. So the fruits of your labor are realized on recovery days! Use these days to STRETCH and relax! Here are a couple of my favorite stretches for the glutes (these muscles are generally super sore for me after a long run so I NEED these stretches)! 1. Pigeon - Place one leg crossways on the floor or mat. Stretch your other leg back as far behind you as you can. Lean forward to increase the stretch in your glute muscle. Hold for 30 seconds and the swap sides. 2. Cross legged/pretzel stretch - Cross your right leg over your left leg and fold your left leg (as if sitting crossed legged). Reach your left hand up to lengthen your body then twist it around your right knee and look behind you. Push on your knee and gaze backwards until you feel it in your glute. For an IT band stretch, take your left arm and grab the outside of your right foot and extend. Youch!!! (In the best way)! Hold each pose for 30 seconds and switch sides. Enjoy!!!
