Super long post but I need to tell this. So Im rushing to a patients house and almost step on a magpie on the ground. Some disgusting psycho had tied up his legs tightly with rubber band and left him to shrivel up and die in the hot sun, or get stepped on or crushed by people. I took off my outer shirt (thank God for layering) and wrapped him in it before approaching an uncle in a shop to borrow his scissors to cut the birds bonds. The bird look unharmed but was in shock and seemed dehydrated. So I carried him to a watermelon stall and the Uncle very kindly gave us a piece of watermelon for free. After squeezing a few drops of juice into the birds mouth, he became alert and quite strong, hopping out of my arms onto the grass where he sat down to rest. Had to run for my appointment already and the whole group of fruit stall uncles promised they would keep an eye on him for me. Im really touched by their spontaneous kindness towards this little bird, but at the same time extremely revolted by how someone would be so cruel. I also wonder how many people walked by, saw the bird and ignored it. They are just as wrong as the abuser. Its the first time Ive personally come across such abuse, and I have to say its so, so heartbreaking. Please if you ever see anyone doing something strange to an animal, please step up and stop them.
