Superhero movies never stop impressing me this year, and Teenage - TopicsExpress

Superhero movies never stop impressing me this year, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is the last superhero movie this year (well, last live-action film, as theres a Disney animated film coming out with a superhero theme). Introducing the famous Ninja Turtles to a new generation, director Johnathan Liebesman teams up with producer Michael Bay to create a popcorn flick that is extremely fun for me to watch. Darkness has settled over New York City as a terrifying menace known as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April ONeil and her cameraman Vern Fenwick to save the city and unravel Shredders diabolical plan to take over all of New York. Thats basically it. Just a basic superhero movie: Superheroes are discovered, a villain is discovered, and the heroes have to save the day, yadda-yadda-yadda. But Im really not saying that this film is bad, far from it. In fact, it does what it promises very well. The cast is likeable, the actions terrific, the storys intriguing, the visual effects are cool, and to be honest, I like the Turtles and their sense of humor. In fact, all of those elements in this movie, story, action, characters, they all made me feel like a little kid again, when I was watching kids superhero shows like Batman, The Powerpuff Girls, Darkwing Duck, Power Rangers (Still love those shows and sometimes still watch them; I even have the first two shows on DVD; I have many animated Batman DVDs and I have The Powerpuff Girls Movie inside the large silver DVD box). Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles really brought the kid-loving-superhero behavior back in me. To be honest, the way they created the Turtles is my most-liked aspect of the film as well as the action. They created the Turtles through motion capture, with the actors playing the turtles wearing mo-cap suits and the computer captures their movements and facial expressions, like Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The actors who played the Turtles are Jeremy Howard (Donatello), Noel Fisher (Michelangelo), Alan Ritchson (Raphael), and two actors play Leonardo; stunt actor Pete Ploszek supplies the motion-capture performance for Leonardo, while Jackass star Johnny Knoxville provides Leonardos voice. All the Turtles actors are extremely likeable and some, mostly Fisher as Michelangelo, are funny as heck. Another well-liked aspect of the film is that Michael Bay is the producer. You all know who Michael Bay is and what hes best known for, films that feature explosions, slow-motion, blah-blah-blah. Well, for those of you that dont like Bay, youll be pleased to see that despite Bay being involved in the film, there are almost no explosions in this film; just fight sequences and car chases. Youre still gonna see the slow-motion cliche and the cheesy dialogue cliche, but for those that like Bay, youll be satisfied. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a darn fun movie. The cast is likeable, the actin is terrific, the storys terrific and the way they made the Turtles in this film is all-around impressing. I know many critics dont like this film (as usual, considering Bays the producer), but they dont realize that this is supposed to be a fun movie, and not to be taken seriously. It was a fun movie for me to see, and Im sure it will be fun for you to see, too. For those of you that have kids, I highly encourage you parents to take your kids to see this movie, because this movie will really make you feel like a kid again.
