Support Teachers! I got into a discussion with a young man - TopicsExpress

Support Teachers! I got into a discussion with a young man parroting his fathers position on the strike/lockout. His position was that you can support Teachers without agreeing that they need a wage increase. I disagree and you can read the highlights. If you agree with me share my rant! This is the WORST fiscally responsible government in the history of British Columbia. They have been in power for 13 years and despite what they tell you they inherited a government with a surplus. They quickly made a 2 billion dollar cut to personal income taxes and suddenly they had to cut vital social programs. Ever wondered why there are so many homeless people downtown Victoria? I assure there were less 13 years ago. It does not stop there --this government has wasted more money on PPPs and other idealogical garbage. Here is my favourite a roof for BC Place that cant open or close in the rain --in Vancouver. biv/article/20130104/BIV0109/130109976/-1/BIV/exclusive-bc-place-renovation-final-costs-were-five-times-original Teachers are basically asking for INFLATION which means their wage will be worth the same as it is now relative to the cost of living going forward. Is that really so much to ask? Is it their fault that this government intentionally or irresponsibly squanders the wealth of British Columbians? No. Dont do the governments work for them. They claim to be fiscally responsible, so let them explain why they cant fund a system they have 13 years of experience running. My point is this the government has decided they cannot afford the wage increases, they have plenty of money for everything else. Therefore, anyone who believes that we cannot pay teachers inflationary increases is not a supporter of teachers. Nuff said
