Supporters of the All Progressive Congress in Nasarawa State on Friday stormed the state House of Assembly in solidarity with Governor Tanko Al-Makura. The supporters, who are all women, said the rule of law must be followed by members of the House of Assembly in their attempts to remove Al-Makura. The protesters took off at about 11:30 am from the All Progressives Congress secretariat along Shendam Road in Lafia and arrived at the Assembly complex at about 1:11pm On arriving at the House of Assembly’s gate, the women were stopped by security agents. The protesters, who had waited for about two hours without being able to gain entrance into Assembly complex, ran out of patience and forced their way into the premises. Receiving the protesters, member representing Awe North Constituency, Tanko Tunga, and his Keffi East counterpart, Bala Adams, hailed them for their bravery in bringing the solidarity message to the Assembly complex. Tunga told the protesters that they had the right to take the protest to their elected leaders. He, however, called on them to remain calm and law-abiding. Tunga, however, urged the pro-impeachment lawmakers to shun their planned removal of the governor in the interest of the state’s development. While responding to journalists’ questions immediately after the protest, the lawmaker said, “The PDP lawmakers are constitutionally elected by the people; they are law-abiding citizens of this country and if they want to make good laws for good governance of this state, then they should also obey the law. “I am a member of the ruling party and I am not the only person that received our supporters. Other APC leaders also received them. So, this means the people have spoken. Please enough of legislative rascality, some people want to plant seed of discord; they want to plant seed of revolution, it cannot happen.” Responding to the protest, the police spokesperson, Ismaila Numan, told Saturday PUNCH on the telephone that the protest was unauthorised but had to mobilise his men to save the situation from being hijacked by hoodlums.
