Surah 106 Surah Quraish Brief summary: This surah has nothing to do with the prominent Arabian tribe called Quraish same as Surah Al-Phil has nothing to do with elephant. Quraish signifies a complex behavior of the people who make a living by despotic means. This habit of theirs is inculcated because they have experienced long tedious route of the paucity and insecurity. They are being instructed to think how their Rabb change their situation of extreme need and made them safe from fear. Meanings: Li-illafi = for inclination, for keeping, frequented, resorted, habitually, attracted, addicted, allured, belonging etc. Quraish = gnash, grind, nibble, crunch, chew, make a living, prosperous, wealthy Illafihim = their habit, addiction, inclination Rihalth = long journey or route, strength of enduring a long journey, enduring the harassment or annoyance of long journey Al-shitaee = The dearth, the paucity, people experience drought, barrenness, paucity, straightness Wa = and, means Saif = remained, stayed, dwelt, abode, suffice, delayed etc Falayabudu = so let them serve Rabb = Lord, Nourisher, Provider, Possessor, Sustainer, Owner, Having authority, Ruler, Govern, over them, having command, reared, brought up, brought to maturity, stayed, dwelled, not quitting it, master, chief, reformer, king, (ribbath/rabbiun means group of learned/likeminded people with same aim), (rabbani means knowledgeable man)- As no translator is clearly defining the invincible Lord, Nourisher, hence creating confusion and encouraging the philosophy of DUAS addressed to mysterious Rabb, I decided to study all this meanings for at least 4 years with the “Quranic” context then I came to the conclusion that if we have to define Rabb in simple and single word which encompasses the essence of the meaning of Rabb I decided a system of Conscious/Mind is the meaning which will represents the word Rabb in all the my future translations unless the context decides otherwise. Understanding the essence of the message is of utmost important than the other factors. My aim is that the translations should be reader friendly and simple. Haza = this (emphasizing) Al-Bayat = The Meditation, pondering, planning or dwelling on some thought overnight (4:81), merging of thoughts, system of thoughts, pause Al-lazi = those who Ataamahum = ate, digestible, easily agreeable, inoculated, educate, possessing of intelligence, prudence Min = From Joiin = desired, hunger, compelling need, longed, necessity Wa = and means Amanahum = made them safe Min = from Khauf = feared, insecurity, apprehensions, terrified Below is the verbatim translation and you may find the syntax of the sentence is not according to the rule of the English language but to translate any language and apply them in the sentence word by word is not possible. Readers are free to rearrange the sentences and vocabularies as long as the message does not lose its sense. (1) This is for the people who are habitually inclined towards living by despotic means = Liilafi Quraishin, (2) Their habit of enduring long route or journey is due to experience of dearth (of resources) and that remained (in their psychic) =illafihim rihalthashitaee wasaif, (3) So let them serve the Provider (Rabb) of this thoughts/planning = faliyaabudu Rabba Hazalbayat (4) (Rabb) Who educated them from compelling need and made them safe from fear = Lazi ataamanhum min joeen wa aamanum min khauf.
