Sure Guarantees? Proverbs 14:19 The book of Proverbs - TopicsExpress

Sure Guarantees? Proverbs 14:19 The book of Proverbs contains some of the most wonderful and blessed truths found in all of Scripture. However, some people interpret these basic life principals as hard and fast rules that, if strictly followed and enforced, will guarantee success in this temporal life, especially in the matter of prosperity and fortune. But such is not always the case. For example, Proverbs 14:19 states, The evil bow before the good. Yet in our world today, that is clearly a rare occurrence. In fact, generally it is the wicked who rule, and more often than not, the good people wind up bowing in obeisance to them. Why is this particular proverb not a general rule for today? In its historical context, written from King Solomons perspective, such a governing principle was indeed the norm, for he reigned during what was known as the theocratic kingdom of God when the Lord led the nation of Israel through its Davidic ruler. This state of affairs ended (Ezek.9-10) when Babylon attacked and destroyed the city of Jerusalem and the temple, thus inaugurating the period of history in which we now live-the times of the Gentiles (Dan.2,7; Lk.21:24). In this present age, sadly it is rare for any leaders of the worlds nations to have accepted Jesus Christ as Savior. Does this mean that the Bible has empty promises? Of course not! But, it is vital that we rightly (divide) the word of truth through a proper dispensational interpretation (2 Tim.2:15). Today, we can personally apply all of the Bibles truths to our lives and ministries, and the New Testament explains how we can utilize these principals for Gods glory by learning from the lives of those who rejected them (Rom.15:4).
