Surge on the border - 4000 new cameras (couldnt we just check their facebook ?) expansion of aircraft surveillance and overtime payments for DPS officers across the state equivalent to about 600 additional state troopers. Funding, along with the blessing to move forward with the surveillance cameras, came via state officials earlier this week, who approved injecting another $86 million to continue the surge. The bulk of that money is being directed to keep the increased DPS presence along the border through August. The cameras are motion-sensitive, monitored around the clock and produce still photos of armadillos, lizards, and other wildlife. DPS had spent about $25 million to date on the operation. 6,600 apprehensions were recorded in late June, compared to an average of about 1,500 a month. I feel much safer now _
