Surrender isn’t so much an abject submission of subject to - TopicsExpress

Surrender isn’t so much an abject submission of subject to master, but rather a psychological transition from willfulness to openness – an alternative to control and forcing life to bend to my will. Today I have learned to let go of what isn’t, to embrace what is. There is a whole lot of freedom in that. To those who say they just can’t or won’t believe in a Higher Power, I say, then you can’t go any deeper than the surface of your problems and your solutions. I say that if there is no Higher Power, or Divine Source of Love, and if you are all there is, then kiss your ass goodbye. It takes a lot to humble any addict – sometimes we just don’t get humbled. Some of us may even think we are humble – then our disease comes back with a smack down – and we realize we’ve just been posturing. Surrendering to a Higher Power means I have Divine Source inside me as a part of me, but that I am not the originator of that Source. I am a creation of that Source, and as such I can now create love and joy in my life on a daily basis. It means that I can’t see the entire panorama of my life or the lives of others – I don’t know what it’s going to take for them to achieve serenity or happiness and I can’t judge their journey. I can’t bend people or circumstances to my will and so I surrender these on a daily basis. This is what surrender means to me. I let these things go to a Power Greater than myself who can see the entire human vista and gives us all free will. – Linda Lyons Thought for Today: Our spiritual remedy is not scientific, but metaphysical. The concept of the 12 Steps are metaphysical, such as the principle of surrender and making amends. Recovery is easy when we do the suggested things: 1. Surrender our will to a Higher Power on a daily basis 2. Meditate on a daily basis 3. Attend meetings (for early recovery 90 meetings in 90 days) 4. Work through the Steps and implement them into daily life 5. Help others find peace and serenity by sharing our experience, strength and hope.
