Sushants food secrets Sushant Singh Rajput digs the cuisine of the capital Coffee break The moment he’s out of bed, Sushant Singh Rajput needs coffee. Coffee is his weakness. “I drink a lot of coffee. On set, I drink seven to eight cups of coffee.” No wonder he’s always buzzing. Food fetish “I’m a foodie. But if I’m playing a character for which I need to reduce my weight, then I need to watch what I eat. If that’s not needed, then I gobble up whatever’s there in front of me, be it jalebi or samosa.” While working on the TV show Pavitra Rishta, Sushant never had to gain or lose weight. But as soon as he signed his first film, Kai Po Che, he had to alter his diet chart. Sushant recalls, “When I was doing TV, I weighed 89 kilos. But for Ishan’s character in Kai Po Che, I had to lose 14 kilos. I reduced my weight to 74 kilos within six-seven weeks.” Sushant is on a strict diet once more. “I weigh 78 kilos right now and need to reduce five more kilos for Dibakar Banerjee’s film, Byomkesh Bakshi. So even if you offer me a samosa, I won’t be able to eat it. But if I want to ruin my diet, I’ll rush to order mutton biryani and jalebi-rabri.” Delhi and dil Sushant has spent a good many years in Delhi, and so he has knowledge of Delhi cuisine. When it comes to food, Delhi scores much higher than Mumbai on Sushant’s taste meter. “I love Delhi food. The spices are used well there. You can say dilli ka khana dil se banta hai. Parathas at Moolchand and momos at Kamla Nagar’s Momo Point are amazing. You can’t get them anywhere else. I used to visit these places with my friends regularly.” Talking about his girlfriend Ankita Lokhande’s favourite food spots in Mumbai, Sushant says, “For Chinese, we usually visit Mainland China. I also like Indigo. Sometimes we go to a five-star like JW Mariott. All these hotels have themed restaurants. We order according to our mood.” Cooking up love Sushant is known to impress people by his cooking expertise. When his busy schedule allows him to enter the kitchen, he revels in serving the Indian platter. “I cook delicious rajma-rice, which is my comfort food. If there’s no one at home and I want to make myself happy. I treat myself to rajma-rice.” Sushant sometimes also cooks to win his lady love Ankita’s heart. He’s glad that she’s non fussy about food. “Ankita eats whatever is served with love.” And what special dish does she serve him? “She prepares gajar ka halwa for me, something that I truly delight in.” The actor confesses to having a sweet tooth. “Offer me a chocolate, a pastry or any dessert and I can’t say no,” he guffaws. Party Secrets We hardly see stars eating at a party. Does it mean that stars eat at home and then attend a party? Sushant has a hearty laugh, “See, it depends on who the host is, where the party is and how long I plan to stay there.” Sharing his secret, Sushant explains, “If I’m attending a friend’s party and I know that the food’s going to be good, I go without eating at home. But if I’m not sure how long I’ll be at the party then I eat at home and then go.” Starry perks When a star visits a restaurant, he always gets special treatment. And Sushant enjoys those perks. “When I visit a restaurant for a Sunday lunch, I call them up and let them know I’m coming. They reserve a table for me. They serve me with great interest. Sometimes they don’t even bill me.” Restaurants offer a choice between regular and sparkling water. What does he choose? Our question stumps him, “I always call for sparkling water. But I wonder why I do so because even their regular water is good enough.” Sushants favourite 5 dishes Moolchand ke parathe, Samosa, Gajar ka halwa, Mutton Biriyani and Momos filmfare/features/sushants-food-secrets-5223-3.html
