Sustainability seems to be the magic word nowdays including Aruba. So long we keep the economy growing but who are the beneficiaries? What is sustainability when we are still depending on foreign oil and gasoline? What is sustainable when we haven t pass legislation as to stimulate solar energy individually? What is sustainability when we cannot approve our own alternative medicine made in Aruba. Where our health care AZV pays for a corporate histal and not stropi calbas. What is sustainability when we have lost our second economic pillar? According to United Nation there are three important sustainable pillars which are economics, environmental and social. As to our economy is in recession, on the environment we still lack legislation and social problems are growing on the island. We have one of the highest GDP in the Caribbean? Well as Robert Kennedy said it tells nothing of the quality of life of our citizens. We measure our economy only by figures and calculation and we forget the human factor. We want to see Aruba in 2025 but we are not creating the way to reach that prosperity. We are discussing sustainability but we havent make any progress whats so ever as to our own sustainable pillars according UN. A vision without action is just hallucination.
