Sutton Under 7s Rogues’ first competitive match was on a warm - TopicsExpress

Sutton Under 7s Rogues’ first competitive match was on a warm sunny morning away to Menston Albion on the astro turf of St Mary’s. All eight team mates played equal game time and forged a quick team spirit in their maiden game. The Rogues fought for each other and had skillful passages of interplay between them. The sheer number of corners awarded to Sutton highlighted their dominance in attack but the woodwork and last ditch blocks kept the scoreline down. There were some great surging runs down both flanks but were unable to convert the play into goals. Sutton fell behind to Menston despite some excellent defending and brave goal keeping. The honour of the U7 Rogues’ first goal of the season fell to a great strike from Rudie Sugden with Theo Morris evening up the score as he finished off a great team move. A moment of naivety swung the game in Menston’s favour as they capilatised on Sutton still celebrating their second goal. Although Sutton eventually lost the game, they came away buoyant from their performance and with a bit more luck with the woodwork could have come away victorious. Both sides played the match in great spirit and the players, spectators and managers thoroughly enjoyed the entertaining hour. Next week’s match is at home on Sunday 14th Sept against Salts Tigers.
