Swami Nigamanand Saraswati (Aug 2, 1976 - Jun 13, 2011), also known as Ganga Putra Nigamananda, was a Real Sadhu who began his fast unto death on Feb 19, 2011 to save the river Ganges from pollution caused by illegal mining in the river bed. Hardwar based socio-spiritual organisation Matri Sadan raised the issue of indiscriminate mining at Hardwar in 1998. Nigamanand was the protagonist of this movement. He died on June 13 (the 115th day of his fast) in the same hospital at the time when Sri Sri was feeding Baba Ramdev to break his fast. The entire nation and the media were bothered about Ramdev and they did not promote the voice raised by the Real Sadhu Nigamanand. The reason is very obvious, most of the mining Mafias are the disciples of Ramdev and Guruji, they are also the friends of then CM Ramesh Pokhriyal.
