Swamp-Blues guitarist Lightnin` Slim was born Otis HIcks on this day in 1913 in St. Louis, MO. Lightnin` Slim is the acknowledged Boss of Louisiana`s Swamp-Blues tradition. Slim`s primitive, emotional guitar and the stellar production of J.D. Miller made him the first and biggest star of the famed Swamp-Blues label, Excello. Lightnin` Slim and Slim Harpo teamed up as a duo in the late 60s and were very popular on the ballroom circuit, and especially in Europe. Lightnin` Slim?s music is the finest example of the Swamp-Blues style. He died in 1974.
