Swaraanjali Volume 1 - by Koustubh Arun Pare Once Emperor Akbar was deeply moved by the singing of a great devotee at a temple. He came to know that the devotee was none other than the Guru of Tansen, his court musician. On his return to the palace Akbar wanted to know why Tansens singing never moved him as much, inspite of Tansen being the disciple of such a great master. Tansen replied his Guru sang from his heart only to please God whereas his music was constrained by the desire to please the Emperor.
