Sweet woodruff can be a thug in its preferred environment (consistently moist soil and partial shade). It is not a plant you would want competing with your prized perennials, but here is a look at a couple of ways that you can make it work for you. Look at how well it compliments the different foliage colors of these hostas and bleeding hearts (Dicentra). Dicentra often does a disappearing act if the soil is not kept consistently moist after flowering and if it does, the sweet woodruff is there to fill the space. It also works well as an under-story planting for small trees and shrubs, bridging the gap left beneath this lilac bush. You can also try using it to showcase a favorite piece of sculpture or other garden art.
