Swelling By the Day - MUPA Joins Bandwagon to Endorse Ellen’s Re-election Thursday, 15 September 2011 01:23 A religious group, known as Muslims United for Progressive Actions (MUPA), has endorsed the second term bid of President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf. At a formal presentation ceremony at the Unity Party’s (UP) campaign office on 19th Street, the chairman and founder of MUPA said his group was entrusting the fate of its members and children in the hand of President Sirleaf to continue her rapid development of postwar Liberia. Haji J. M. Sheriff noted that the president’s relentless strides, externally and internally, is evident of how much Liberia has achieved since 2006. He said the once sweet land of liberty is emerging among the comity of nations, courtesy of the first democratically elected female president. Sheriff likened the president’s reelection bid to anybody opting to change a pilot when the plane is about to land. “If we reelect Mrs. Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf as president of the Republic of Liberia for the second term of office come October, Liberia will progress. This country will flourish. Liberia will move forward with such developmental and economic growth, the alacrity of which has never been recorded in the socio-political and economic history of the nation state of Liberia. “Meanwhile the executive committee and the entire membership of the Muslims United for Progressive Actions hereby unreservedly and consciously support Mrs. Madam Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf to be elected as president of the Republic of Liberia for the second term of office. “Not only will we give her all our votes, we shall, we will, we should, we must and in fact we are already participating in all campaign activities to ensure total victory. No one needs to tell anyone that it is a risky thing to do when the plane, yet in flight, to change its pilot especially when the trotters have been shifted and the buttons manipulated to ready the plane for landing,” he argued. Sheriff also highlighted the impact of the poverty reduction strategy (PRS) of the UP-led government by recounting its economic, infrastructural and rule of law pillars. MUPA was founded 19 years ago as an activist Islamic youth organization in the advocacy of social justice, political and religious freedom as well as to carry out voluntary human services. This is the latest group to endorse the president and her team with the party set to officially launch its campaign on Saturday at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Paynesville. A FrontPageAfrica reporter was called to a press conference yesterday, which was later called-off, by airlines students united for Ellen’s reelection.
