Switzerland backs ZIM ASSET: Switzerland’s ambassador to Zimbabwe, Luciano Lavizzari says his country is satisfied with Zimbabwe’s economic blue print, ZIM ASSET that was adopted after the elections. The Swiss ambassador said this when he met the Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Professor Jonathan Moyo and his deputy, Cde Supa Mandiwanzira at their Munhumutapa offices in Harare. Ambassador Lavizzari said Switzerland is happy that Zimbabwe is tackling economic issues after a prolonged period of speaking politics. He said his country is ready to support Zimbabwe in that transition process for economic prosperity and announced that a business delegation from his country will be visiting Zimbabwe to explore areas of partnerships. Asked about Switzerland’s view on the illegal European Union (EU) sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe for the last 13 years, Mr Lavizzari expressed hope that the sooner they are scrapped the better and acknowledged they are an impediment. Although Switzerland is not in the EU and considered neutral, it often votes with the block on many international issues. Switzerland is partnering Zimbabwe in the area of agriculture and is now considering venturing into irrigation, which is another essential component of the ZIM ASSET aimed at ensuring food security and nutrition in the country.
