#Syria Churkin: Western States Refuse to Adopt Statement on Reconciliation in #Homs .. Apr 18, 2014 New York - The Western countries in the UN Security Council have refused to adopt a press statement on the situation in Homs that would express support to reconciliation in Syria and resumption of Geneva negotiations, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin said. Churkins remark came in a statement to ITAR-TASS on Thursday after a closed door session at the UN Security Council. The British side put forward a proposal to adopt a statement on the situation in Homs. We’ve discussed the text for two hours, but they refused to adopt very essential elements which are our call for supporting the local reconciliations. They also refused to support the resumption of the Geneva talks, the russian diplomat said. Prior to a UN Security Council closed-door session, Churkin told reporters that Russia’s embassy in Syria is taking part in efforts to regulate the situation in Homs. “We are concerned about the situation in Homs, like in many other Syrian regions. I have spoken to our embassy in Damascus, they are participating in efforts to settle the situation in Homs. As far as I understand, discussions they take part in embrace more than just the situation in Homs,” Churkin said.
