#Syria Overwhelmed people of #Raqqa refuse to bow to #ISIL Apr 27, 2014 #Beirut, (SANA) Terrorist gangs seem to have left their mark on almost all Syrian cities and villages, as their crimes have already taken a horrendous toll over the past three years. The northeastern province of Raqqa is a most startling example as it has been heavily ravaged by the atrocities of the Western and regional-backed armed terrorist groups, including the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). The true cruel face of this notorious terrorist organization could not unfold more conspicuously than it is doing in Raqqa, despite the various mottos it hides behind. People of Raqqa have been moaning in pain as they were totally overwhelmed by the ISIL’s attempts at running the city through an extremist interpretation of Islamic sharia law, which includes detaining, kidnapping and killing whoever dares to oppose their rules. Fed up with these repulsive crimes that were visited upon them since their city was ran over by the ISIL and was consequently doomed, the residents have gathered all their guts, despite fear of a predictable fate, to cry out and protest their circumstances. Concern over the fate of hundreds who have gone missing has triggered a new protest campaign by families who try to get whatever shreds of information about their relatives. A report published Sunday by the AFP said mothers of the detainees gather every day outside ISIL bases in the city of Raqqa. “They cry, begging for information and for their sons’ release,” said Amer Matar, whose citizen journalist brother Mohammad Nour has been detained by ISIL for nine months. According to the families, the ISIL has carried out a series of arrests against 70 young people last week on charges of speaking out against the oppressive practices of the terrorist organizations. Human rights observers have pointed out that Raqqa now houses an unlimited number of jails where those detainees are held. Those observers’ reports highlight the ferocious and barbaric nature of the torture the detainees endure. While field executions of large numbers of people have been and continue to be carried out, the ISIL members have also been subjecting others to the hideous acts of cutting off hands, crucifying and lashing, the latest of such incident took place last Friday when a woman was given 40 lashes for failing to veil her face. Other extremist rulings which have drawn fury among the Syrians have extended to the Christians in the city who have been asked to pay tribute taxes after terrorists took over their churches and monasteries. With many of their protest campaigns which insist on the ISIL departure have been garnering support on social media networks, the moaning people of Raqqa are showing relentless determination in their quest for restoring freedom and re-imposing the real understanding of Islam they once enjoyed in their city.
