Syria and the Arab Spring By Jon Dunnemann So what can we take away from all the violence? For one, we all bleed. Moreover, if we do it long enough we perish. That of course is not our purpose for being here. It certainly does not reflect the hope for a better life our children anywhere in the world. History has made clear to all that war and violence is not the path to the advancement of civilization. In battle, though you may win today there it is never a guarantee of a peaceful tomorrow. What we have begun to see in these last few weeks is that globally citizens are saying no more. War and violence has taken place for too long and has not resulted in any meaningful gains for mass populations the world over. If you combine the cost of war and government bailouts it should not surprise any one that national treasuries have become depleted and economic growth is both choking and tripping over its own feet. The truth is, that a great failure has taken place on the part of leadership and humanity in general. Maybe, it is time to give the UN greater international enforcement powers in an effort to better protect a baseline standard for health, education and welfare of each nations human and natural resources in an effort to change the course of their economic, human rights and political futures. Whether it be under communism, a dictatorship or a democracy what people currently seem to have in common is that they are being manipulated, taken advantage of, and outright lied to by the rich and power in each scenario and subsequently made to feel unceasingly disenfranchised and powerless.
