Syria in Last 24 Hours: Army Gains Upper-Hand in Jobar Town TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian army has gained the upper-hand in Jobar town in Damascus countryside after winning full control over the strategic areas in the region, informed military sources said. The sources told FNA that army troops have taken full control over several strategic districts in Jobar countryside. The Syrian troops discovered and seized a 600-meter long tunnel during their operation in the city of Jobar, the military sources said. Scores of the Takfiri militants were killed inside the tunnel. Also in the past 24 hours, the Syrian army staged large-scale operations in the strategic areas of Harasta, Douma, al-Qalamoun and al-Zabadani, inflicting major losses on the rebels. Elsewhere, the Syrian troops made fresh gains in their fight against the foreign-backed Takfiri groups in nearby areas of Homs, leaving scores of militants dead and wounded. The army soldiers stormed the hideous of the rebels in the areas of al-Waer, al-Sultania, Salam Garbi, Maksar al-Hussan and Abu al-Alaya in the Eastern countryside of Homs, inflicting heavy casualties on them. Meanwhile, the militants suffered major losses in the areas of Kifr Zeita, Atshan, al-Zakaa, Abdoun, Tulul al-Humr, Adlah and al-Haddaj, as the army continued to score gains in Hama province. The Syrian Army continued to tighten its grip on foreign-backed groups across Damascus, claiming the lives of a large number of Takfiri militants. Elsewhere, the Syrian army continued its advances in different parts of Idlib province in the Northwestern parts of the country, and thwarted an attack by the Takfiri terrorists on Abu Zohour military airport. The ISIL terrorists were pushed back from the surrounding areas of Abu Zohour military airport as they were trying to launch a fresh wave of offensive on army positions at the airport in the Eastern parts of the city of Saraqeb in Idlib countryside. Abu Zohour Airport located in the Northern parts of Idlib countryside is Syrias second largest military airport which is located in an area of 8 square kilometers and it has the capacity for 22 helicopters and Mig fighter jets. Abu Zohour Airport is located 50 kilometers to the East of the city of Idlib and 63 kilometers from Khan Sheikhoun and 40 kilometers from Maaret al-Nauman. In early 2014, the Syrian army regained full control over the Abu Zohour airport by destroying the militants’ positions in there and its surrounding areas. The army units hit several gathering centers of the armed rebels in Masaken Al-Mohateh near Abu Zohour airport first. Then the army killed tens of militants and injured dozens more in heavy clashes around Abu Zohour Airport. The Syrian Army and government have defended their country against insurgents since 2011 when a huge number of foreign terrorists flocked to the Middle-Eastern country. In spite of certain western states military and financial supports for militants, the Syrian troops have been able to push them back from many areas across the country, and based on military observers the fall of militancy in Syria is not far.
