Turning Point: While Portugal were generally on top for the most part, a 13-2 burst of scoring in the middle of the third period put the host nation out of reach, much to the delight of the noisy crowd inside the Centro de Desportos e Congressos de Matosinhos.~ Game Heroes: Simone Costa and Maria Kostourkova led Portugal with two excellent contributions. The former impressed with 15 points while Kostourkova was just one rebound short of a double-double after accumulating 20 points. Stats Dont Lie: Sweden relied heavily on trying to convert from beyond the three-point line and jacked up 33 shots of which only seven dropped. It proved to be a little one dimensional, with only 18 points being delivered under the hoop. The Bottom Line: It was the perfect way for any host to start a competition and Portugal fed off the energy of the fans to great effect. Head coach, Mariyana Kostourkova will be thrilled with the way her team applied themselves at both ends of the floor. Her counterpart, Johanna Ericsson has much to ponder and not least how to get something going from her team in the paint.
