T/SGT FORREST VOSLER - MEDAL OF HONOR RECIPIENT - 303RD BOMB GROUP - JERSEY BOUNCE JR The crew of the 303rds Jersey Bounce Jr were rescued by a passing coaster after ditching east of Cromer. The efforts of T/Sgt Forrest Vosler brought the group their second Medal of Honor. Hit by flak over the target and dropping behind the formations, Jersey Bounce Jr had soon attracted enemy fighters. Vosler, wounded in the thighs and legs by a 20-mm cannon shell exploding in the radio-room, continued to fire his gun at the attackers. Then another shell exploded nearby. Splinters lodged in his chest and face, and both his eyes were hit imparing his vision so that he could only distinguish blurred shapes. His face bathed in blood, he declined first aid and cheerfully continued to carry out his duties. The radio had been damaged but between lapses into unconsciousness, he managed to repair it, working entirely by touch and sent a distress signal. When the crippled Fortress had to ditch, Vosler scrambled out onto a wing, unaided, and held another badly wounded crewman to keep him from falling off until others could help them into a dinghy. Voslers wounds were such that he was discharged from the service after 10 months in the hospital. Vosler eventually regained his eyesight. This 8th hero passed away in 1992 at the age of 69.
