TAKE CARE of U in RAMADAN 7 be more IBAADHAH. *Many people suffer from stomach acid, an irritated esophagus, a feeling of heaviness and discomfort after filling their stomach with the Iftar meal during Ramadan. This acidic liquid should remain in stomach, but sometimes it ascends to the esophagus. If it stays there, the acid causes irritation and discomfort. It may also lead to stomach ulcers. **Avoid very hot or very cold food, as well as spicy, oily, fried and heavy dishes. Reduce as much as possible your coffee consumption. If you must take coffee, wait until two hours after meals. ***Never go to bed directly after eating – you should take meals at least 2 hours before going to sleep and certainly not directly before sleeping. Don’t eat too many samosas and the sweets that are popular during Ramadan. Eat salads as much as possible, particularly those containing fiber-rich vegetables. Eat fruit rather than sweets if you feel hungry between Iftar (evening meal) and Suhoor (early morning meal). ****Drink water after every meal – water removes acidity from the esophagus and reduces the concentration of acid in the stomach. *****Don’t eat in a hurry – take the necessary time to chew and swallow. It is preferable to have a light meal for Iftar, then another small portion if you are still hungry after Isha’ prayer.
