***TAKING APPLICATIONS ON MELODIE*** In mid-October we were contacted by some folks who said that a young female yellow lab had been hit by a car. She had owners, but they said they didn’t want her after she’d been hit; so a very nice person took her to a nearby vets office. The vet’s office said that as much as they would like to help; they couldn’t hold her, they would have to euthanize her due to her injuries. So some amazing folks sprung into action and whisked her away at a moments notice and within a few hours she was on her way to Tulsa via our amazing transport volunteers. When she got to Tulsa, our vet said she’d been hit at a high speed and her right leg injuries were fairly severe. In fact, when the vet opened her up for surgery on the leg, they said it looked like “hamburger meat” inside. They repaired the break and sewed her back up. In the meantime, one of our AMAZING foster homes stepped up to take on this medical project and give this sweet girl a soft place to land and heal. We named her Melodie. As the weeks went by it became apparent to both her foster Mom and the vet that she was not re-gaining any function or healing in the leg, despite hours of physical therapy given to her daily by her foster Mom. The nerved damage was just too extensive from the high speed crash , therefore we knew it was time to amputate. Just hours after the amputation, Melodie was up and walking around. She was in good spirits and back to her normal, sweet self! She is now almost completely healed and will be looking for her forever home soon! Please read Bio Below! She is gorgeous, sweet, affectionate, smart, funny and energetic. Melodie is happy all the time. She has the most beautiful thick and soft coat. Melodie has never met a person or dog that she didnt like. She comes with a unique hallmark......she has but three legs. She is a tripod. And it doesnt slow her down one bit. This adorable puppy is friendly and social. I believe that she would do well in a household with other dogs and children. She still tends to be a little mouthy, and can be corrected, but I wouldnt leave Melodie unsupervised with young children. She hasnt been cat tested, but shows interest and curiosity toward caged cats at Petsmart, cats on leashes and harnesses walking inside Petsmart, and with neighborhood cats. Melodie loves her squeaky toys and loves to play fetch, but wont retrieve off of a slick floor. She feels safe only on a carpeted floor for games. Otherwise, she is fine on my hardwood and ceramic tile floors. Shes also fine outside. She loves being outside, loves to investigate everything, and enjoys being in the sun. She is an inside dog, however, and will let you know that she wants to come in, when she sits by the door. Things she loves: Riding in the car, eating, napping, riding in the car again, getting a treat, playing with toys, playing with my dog, napping, going outside, walking to the mailbox, riding in the car, walking some more, napping. Melodie is completely potty trained, except for excitable weeing if company comes, or if we visit someone she likes. That is something that maturity should end. She does not guard food or toys. She can sometimes be sweet and mellow and cuddly. Other times she is playful and energetic and funny. She barks indoors when shes excited, which I am trying to curb. She is learning to sit, wait, and walk on a leash. I think that with some training, she could make a wonderful therapy dog. But she will be a super great pet for some lucky adopter.” Apply here to adopt Melodie: labrescue.net/AdoptionApplication.html
