#TALKBACKR1: WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE MORE OF;VOCATIONAL OR NON VOCATIONAL EDUCATION?OR WOULD YOU RATHER SEE A BALANCE?There have been calls to make it possible for every student to acquire a skill for which they can secure a job.In countries like Germany and Sweden, which have well developed industrial systems, the best brains go to polytechnics and not universities to learn theories.To achieve these goals, among the main recommendations is a call to the Ministry to make skills development in Business Technical and Vocational Training (BTVET) institutions more responsive to market needs. -BTVET institutions to widen the scope of vocational courses available on the curricula to cater to all needs. -BTVET institutions should be flexible with training periods, so that students can integrate into the market faster or return for short refresher courses, once they are on the job. -Technical colleges favour an upgrade to polytechnics because they would enable them attract quality staff and develop their courses to meet market demand.
