TARABA STATE TO PROBE GOV. SUNTAIS HEALTH The Speaker of the Taraba House of Assembly, Josiah Kente, has set up a five- man medical panel to ascertain the health condition of governor Danbaba Suntai’s who returned last week from a medical trip to London The return of the governor followed claims that he is now fit to take over the affairs of the state from the acting governor, Garba Umar, who has been in charge of the state since Suntai’s medical trip abroad. The Speaker made this known in a statement he signed and made available to newsmen in Jalingo on Saturday. Kente noted that his action became necessary following the resolution of the State Executive Council meeting of 10 September. He said he exercised his constitutional right to constitute a medical panel by evoking section 189 (b) and 189 (4) of the 1999 Constitution as amended. “I have set up the medical panel in line with the resolution of the state executive meeting of Sept. 10 which requested me to do so,” Kente said. The panel members include Bala Shehu as Chairman, Suntai’s personal physician, Shehu Sule and Inusa Samaila, Ahmed Kara and Peter Alabi,. Suntai survived a crash in a plane which he flew on Oct. 25, 2012 and had returned to the state after receiving medical treatment in Germany and the United States. He was later flown to London for further treatment.
