TAUHEED (ISLAMIC MONOTHEISM) Tauheed is to believe in: 1. Allah 2. His Angels 3. His Messengers 4. His revealed Books 5. Day of Resurrection 6. and Al-Qadr (Devine Preordainment) and also to act on the five principles of Islam. Tauheed has 3 aspects thus: 1. Tauheed-ar-Rububiyyah; The Oneness of the Lordship of Allah: To believe that there is only one Lord for all the universe, Who is its Creator, Organizer, Planner, Sustainer, and the Giver of security and that is Allah. 2. Tauheed l-al-Uluhiyyah; The Oneness of Allah in Worship: To believe that none has the right to be worshipped (e.g of worship are prayer, invocation, asking for help from the unseen, swearing, offering sacrifice, giving charity, fasting etc) but Allah. 3. Tauheed-al-Asmaa was- Sifaat; The Oneness of the Names and the Qualities of Allah. This is to believe that: → i. We must not name or qualify Allah except with what He or His Messenger (pbuh) has named Him; →ii. None can be named or qualified with the Names or Qualifications of Allah; e.g None can be named or called Al-Karim →iii. We must believe in all Qualities of Allah which Allah has stated in His Book or mentioned through His Messenger ( pbuh) without changing their meaning or ignoring them completely or twisting their meanings or likening them (giving resemeblance) to any of the created things e.g Allah is present over His Throne see (Q20:5); The Most Gracious (Allah) rose over the Throne , over the seventh heaven and He desceds to the nearest heaven on th Day of Arafat, but He is with us by His knowledge, not by His Personal-Self. Allah says: There is nothing like Him and He is the All- Hearer, the All-Seer (Q 42:11) Although, Allah sees and hears His Sight and Hearing is not the same as that of humans. Also Allah said: The Hand of Allah is over their hands (Q 38:75) Although, Allah has Hands, His Hands are not the same as that of Man. Similarity of name doesnt implies physical similarity. For instance, tables leg is different from mans leg despite their similarity of name, Leg. The 3 aspects of Tauheed are included in the meaning of La ilaaha illallah. It is compulsory to follow Allahs Messenger (pbuh) and is part Tauheed -al-Ulihiyyah. This is included in the meaning, I testify that Muhammad (saw) is Allahs Messenger, meaning, None has the right to be followed after Allahs Book, but Allahs Messenger (saw) Allah says: And whatsoever the Messenger (saw) gives you, take it, and whatsoever he forbids you abstain (from it) (Q 59:7) Say (O Muhammad (saw)), If you (really) love Allah then follow me ( follow my Sunnah) , Allah will love you and forgive you your sins (Q 3:31) [The Noble Quran] May Allah grant us tauheed!
