TBT - Earlier today I shared an account of one of the biggest childhood scraps in which I was ever engaged. It came about because of my mothers insistence during my early childhood that I use formal English at all times. Everything came to a head when my command of English was misunderstood as an insult. My statement? When the cheating of our sandlot baseball opponents became unbearable I exclaimed, I shall not tolerate this stupidity any longer! The co-captain of the opposing team translated for the captain, Man, he called you stupid! And the fists started flying! My dads advice post - brouhaha was, Man, if you keep talking like King James, youre gonna get in fights everday! Next time, just say Yall cheated! Of course, I had other skirmishes for being dressed in the fashion of this picture - but as you can see, I was undaunted by anyones attempt to intimidate me! It kind of had the Boy named Sue effect and made me that much tougher..though I did cease conversing in the King James dialect! :-D
