#TBT Remembering how much fun we all had while filming the tap sequence in The Producers Movie! So many funny things happened on set, including an unforgettable moment when the loading dock door was open while the crew set up for a new camera shot in Springtime. A small family of Hasidic jews, passing by the door on the way to their storage units, had gathered at the open door to see what was going on at the new Steiner Studios in Brooklyn. After a few minutes, the whole family was there, totaling about 20 in number. Grandma, little daughter, the whole shebang. To their horror, as they peered into the gigantic room set up like a broadway theatre house and stage, a cue was called, and spotlight hit Gary Beach dressed in all of his Hitler glory, singing And now iiiiiiiiits as the red curtain rose on about 125 Stormtroopers doing goosesteps. Myself, Brad Musgrove, and Uma Thurman witnessed this in horrific glee. I forget who, but someone suggested to Mel Brooks that the loading dock door be shut before continuing the rehearsal. He said its too expensive to shut that door right now!, and that was that! LOL.
