#TBT This is a rare TBT post for me and its gonna be a long one. Hang on. Me back in the day when I was Entertainment/Marketing Manager at the Albuquerque Convention Center. I JUST reclaimed these photos after many years. Unbeknownst to either me or Jana Lee Aspin they were carefully stored in some boxes that she went thru while preparing to move to Hawaii (yes, HAWAII! poor thing). I am especially happy to get the picture of me and the Cos back! I searched high and low for it! Accused Ron Wallace of taking it, etc....you know the drill of a disorganized gal....Sorry, Ronnie! Anywho...since were reminiscing (or at least I am)..Ill recount the story of my first meeting with Bill Cosby. I met a lot of celebs in my job--I think I did a pretty good job of marketing the Center and we had lots of great concert business--but I was excited to meet Bill Cosby. This concert occurred a couple of years after his sons tragic death and he dedicated the tour to him. His manager called me and said that he absolutely had to watch the Temple University basketball game that night and I moved mountains to get cable backstage at the Kiva. We did not have cable at that time but I was not going to disappoint Bill Cosby! So, anyway, we got it and Im waiting for him to arrive. I get the call and I need to go down the Kiva freight elevator (a rather inelegant way to greet celebs, but it was what we had!) to pick him up. His limo pulled up and he got out with his manager Peter with a Wendys bag and a Coke. Now mind you, I had an elaborate spread upstairs, but he was doing Wendys. I greeted them and was attempting to be professional by not asking a bunch of silly questions as we rode up in the freight. It seemed like it lasted an eternity and in the silence, he kept inching closer and closer to me until finally I had to look up and he said, Can you talk? I burst out laughing and told him that I was trying to respect his privacy and he said--okay, thats enough of that. He told me he liked my eyes. We had a blast and I was so very impressed that he performed two shows with completely different material. I witnessed genius up close that night. He took about 5 different stories and weaved them through a 90 minute flawless performance that included material that was improvised from each audience. Thanks for the laughs Mr. Cosby and I loved my job at the ACC..... These photos Circa 1996 - 1999 - Good times.
